I've seen the solar energy charger from Kodak. It's lauched at the 30th of July.
I think it's really a good idea to have such one because I didn't find the time to charge my mobile phone. And it's often happend that my phone switched off when I'm on the way and need it very urgent. Such a charger can be very helpful iin such situations. But does anybody tried a solar charger before??

I've not tried one either. My partner goes away on a lot of mountain trips where he has no access to electric, it would be really useful in this kind of circumstance. Especially if (God forbid) an emergency occurred. Would be really interested in the performance.

Sounds optimal for your parents. For such a trip it's good to have as a precaution.
It's very small so it doesn't take to much space in the bag.

Now that would be a really good idea, the amount of times I have been out and about, only to hear my phone beeping because I have forgotten to charge it.

I have just read, that it can give 1 1/2 hours charge to mobiles
Run a music player
digital camera

It can also charge off of a PC/Leptop etc if light is scarce.

Will retail for about $40 when it comes out next month!

Wonder when it will come to the UK and how much it will be here!

After finding the solar charger I started a research of solar products. I found really great things.
The one which impressed me that much is the solar beach bag.

Here is also a good charger for your iPhone:

You can just attach the case to your belt buckle and power will constantly be trickling in...Clever...

It is amazing how quickly the technology develops and how useful it makes life. Where would we all be now without this technology, no mobile phones blink.gif

I really like the o=look of the wind turbine phone charger you can get for you tent:

QUOTE
The problem of keeping your mobile phone fully charged when miles away from a conventional electricity source is being tackled by UK wind turbine specialists, Gotwind. The Orange wind charger prototype is a small, portable tent mounting mobile phone charger that uses stored kinetic energy to fully charge a mobile phone in up to two hours. Weighing only 150 grams, the wind generator may be a convenient answer for your next camping trip and adds another option to the growing number of ecologically friendly phone accessories such as solar powered phone chargers (which have limited functionality at night and in colder climates) and wind-up units.Read full article...

I have tried a solar one before and it could never get you up to full power - even when I put it under a light to test how good it is. I guess the wind turbine isn't something you could easily take around in your pocket, but I do think it is a great idea for camping or other out door activities.

That's really useful info Roxanna. I was thinking on the bleaker mountain days the solar charger wouldn't work for him. That's definitely proof of the pudding if you can't get it to charge with a torch biggrin.gif

The solar charger sounds like a good solution, would be really good for my inlaws on their sailing boat. When DP hikes up mountains he usually has very limited space in his rucksack with a tent, sleeping bag, food etc etc now if they can make a version that folds it will be perfect!

Will keep my eye on how the prototypes work out, thanks.

From what i've heard they have this charger for phones that you attach to your leg and with the kinetic power it charges the phone. kinda out there but it's real from what i've seen online.

What an amazing concept. I've never heard of these before.
I'd heard about kinetic watches but never chargers like this. How cool.
