Hello

Please can anyone help me decide which camcorder to buy?? I need one with excellent sound quality, a microphone plug, a tripod a hard drive or must store vdeos on memory card. I don't want one that needs mini DV tapes. my budget will depend on the quality of the camcorder..

Thanks!
C

Hi cee39,

Without giving a budget it is a very broad spectrum of cameras you are going to be looking at, so here are 3 suggestions to suit different price ranges and sporting different features to give you an idea for the cameras you may want to go for:

Cheapest Option - JVC GZ-MG130
http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/pl/8-872828/C...-Compare-Prices
  • Easy to use.
  • Cheap with prices starting from £224.65.
  • Small and easy to transport.
  • As it is such a compact camera, the sound quality may not be as good as you have hoped for as it may only have a unidirectional microphone (pick up sound from one direction), rater than an omindirectional one that will pick up sound from all around.

Mid-range Option - Canon HG10 40GB
http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/pl/8-989257/C...-Compare-Prices
  • Canon's are renowned for their good sound quality.
  • Option to screw on other lenses including wide angle.
  • Good size for easy transportation.
  • Mid-range price from £568.14

Expensive Option - Sony HVR-V1U
http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/pl/8-856159/C...-Compare-Prices
Sony's latest addition to its professional HDV camcorder lineup is the HVR-V1U. This camcorder is packed with a host of features designed for serious amateurs and budding professionals.
  • Offers brilliant sound with the option to add external microphone if you wish.
  • Offers high definition images.
  • Quite big - this will give you steadier images if you are not planning to use a tripod, but makes it more difficult to transport.
  • Very expensive at £2499.98.

The most popular camera in Hard Drive Camera's Category is the Sony DCR-SR52E retailing from £249.97.

I have two tips. (1) Buy on that works and (2) When you get it...don't drop it. I know useful! I'm just happy to help.
