Hi guys

I'm fairly new in the world of shopping online, but I've heard you can get some really good bargains as opposed to shopping in a shop. I'm looking for some dancing clothes for my grandaughter, who's seven, and going into the world of ballet. She badly needs some new ballet shoes and my daughter - her mother - is finding buying them very expensive. So, would I get a better deal buying on the internet? My son in law found a website called Dance Direct which is at http://www.dancedirect.com and he said the prices on their looked good for their range of ballet shoes but I wondered if anyone else out here had children interested in ballet and could tell me whether the prices were decent or not? It's cheaper than buying in the shops but I still want to save her as much money as possible.

Thanks

Rebecca

Thanks for the tip Rebecca. Was it easy to get the right size even though your granddaughter wasn't able to try them on? And if they are the wrong size - do they have a good return and exchange policy?

I have bought a few items of clothing online - but it tends to be t-shirts and jumpers, as I am skeptical about getting shoes and trousers to fit. However there were a few items that I had spotted in the shops before Christmas and the high street stores soon run out of the ones I desired, but I was able to pick a few of them up with the same or better discount.

I really like buying clothes off e-bay too as you can get some vintage bargains. They have a whole dance wear section - clothes.listings.ebay.co.uk/Dancewear-Accessories

As for other shops - www.capeziodanceeu.com is a nice European shop with ballet shoes starting from about £12. Also www.danceworld.demon.co.uk have a really good selection of stock, but I haven't used them and you do pay top dollar for a few of their more unique items. The site also looks a b bit basic so not sure how I would feel about paying by card on their website.

In case you're wondering - I do ballroom myself.

Well, I haven't used them yet - I'm hoping somebody here has and can give me a personal experience. I have to say though, their returns policy does look satisfactory to me but, like I said, my experience with the world of online shopping is, minimal to say the least. My daughter doesn't have the Internet and I only have it because my son insisted it would help me to 'move into the modern age' so I can't say I'm an expert by any means on reading into a returns policy. I do think you have a point though, with the fact that fitting may be a problem. Hmm. Definitely something that needs bearing in mind, although it seems shopping online is a lot easier and cheaper. No dragging the kids round the shops (damn, why couldn't the internet have been invented thirty years ago)! Ebay isn't something I've looked at as yet, if I'm honest, the whole online auction thing makes me wary but as I become more PC savvy I hope to try it out :-)!

Online shopping certainly does have it's highlights - as you said; not having to drag the kids round the shop and having the luxury of your items being delivered to your door and not having to drag them around town. But Minx is right you should always check the returns policy first when buying clothes so if you do get the wrong size - you're not left out of pocket.

Though I am not a dancer myself, I have been told by those in the know that you shouldn't buy dancing shoes online as every pair fit differently. If you are buying points for ballet for the first time they really need to be fitted by a professional as otherwise they can damage the feet of young dancers. However all other dance attire should be fine.

Normally I am also a big fan of e-bay, buy when you are buying such technical pieces of kit, such as ballet shoes I would probably steer clear in favour of going to a professional dance shop. Again for other ballet item you'll be quids in on these types of auction sites as you will be able to pick up tutus and dresses much cheaper either when they are shipped in from abroad or second hand.
