Hi
Just want easy to use small cheap camera that I can take out and about. Boyfriend bought me one for Xmas from John Lewis but he's more of a technophobe than me and although it was cheap (only a stocking filler) its not even 1 Megapixel!? Found receipt and its going back tomorrow! Any recommendations? I do obviously want it to produce half decent pics though! |

Thanks for that just a lot more than I wanted to pay. Not really into cameras full stop but want one handy and easy enough to use and also essential for me to set up my ebay seller account.
Now torn between the following (just got these from price runner lisings) : Would appreciate any feedback... however for no apparent reason like on millionaire I'm swaying towards the Olympus. Olympus IR 300 Silver Benq DC C510 Black Advent MP 51 Silver Kodak Easyshare CD50 Silver Pentacon Praktica DCZ 5.4 Prices are just £49.99 - £59.99 ?:| |

Sway AWAY from the Olympus... it's quite an old model now, and you'll be able to find better specs for £60. The Kodak CD50 that you've mentioned isn't bad, and gives OK quality for this price.
However, there are hidden costs. Digital cameras eat batteries. So very quickly you will discover that it's cheaper to get a charger and 2300mAh rechargable batteries. They will also be more convenient, since they last twice as long as Duracell type batteries. 4 batteries and a charger will set you back about £25. In addition you will need a bigger card. The 16MB that the most generous of these models comes with will store around 10 pictures at a size you can print. Even cutting down the size will allow around 40 pictures max. You might get 20 seconds of video. SanDisk do a 1GB Secure Digital card (which works with the Kodak) for £10.99 - that will store around 400 pictures or around 15 minutes of video. Alternatively, consider getting a cameraphone - Sony Ericsson are the best in this area. There is no zoom, but if you mainly want it for pictures of your friends, this shouldn't be a problem. Good luck |

zibby makes a good point about the cameraphones. the sony ericsson k750i is actually equally good in picture quality as all the cameras you mention, and you don't need to worry about batteries, etc. it's always in your pocket too.
big downside of cameraphones is the lack of flash. even cheap cameras have better flashes than cameraphones, so if you want it for taking night pictures, or pictures in clubs and dark places.... then it wouldnt be so good. if you want to get a cheap camera, go with the kodak cd50. its easy to use and takes ok pictures. also think about getting a second hand model from ebay - digital cameras dont die in the same way as a lot of things, and you may be able to pick up a nice camera (unwanted christmas present, for example) for around £30. |
