Now what i need to know is, how do i (without taking my Desktop downstairs, and without filing my laptop up, get the music downstairs?? I have looked up streaming etc, but have become even more confused!!! Entire setup is wireless do i need anything else to make it possible, or is it simply a question of pushing the right buittons somewhere?? Any help would be very much appreciated!!! |

Hi,
I use a Linksys wireless device see following; http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c...FVisitorWrapper Once plugged into TV I can listen to desktop mp3s through home cinema set-up. Also check out the Netgear MP101 Digital Music Player I'm sure there will be other devices available also Good luck BC |

Right, here goes. I have a Desktop upstairs, i have a laptop downstairs, i have my laptop connected to my amplifier (downstairs) but 45gb of music on my Desktop upstairs etc etc as you already have a wireless connection - the simplest way would be to create a shared folder on your wifi connection (the computer with all of the music on.) This enables any compatible device on your wireless network to access the shared folder and play the music. When you create the new folder and paste the music into the folder that you want to share (it's as simple as a copy and paste job) RIGHT click on the folder and go to the sharing tab. It may be called something along the lines of this - or a sharing and security tab along the top of the properties window Next you need to enable the sharing of the folder on the network so make sure that the folder IS NOT made private!!!. All you would need to do then is know the location of the file with all of your music on. This would mean that you don't need to by a music streamer (which can be quite expensive). You also need to make sure that both computers are in the same workgroup. Using the default "WORKGROUP" is fine. Then make sure that BOTH PCs can see each other by accessing your "my network places" often located on the desktop or failing that - in the start menu somewhere. Then log into your laptop and check to see whether your laptop can see your desktop PC in the "Computers near me" in the "my network places" and then log into your desktop and do the same to make sure your desktop can see your laptop. Happy streaming |
